Experiences, challenges and strategies in reaching target groups in political education and research in rural East Saxony
Social discourse on the rural regions of eastern Saxony is characterized by reports on AFD election successes, populist protest movements, economic grievances and demographic decline. Deprivation and a lack of democracy seem to be the keywords under which the rural reality of life here can be summarized. At the same time, Lusatia is currently not only facing huge challenges as part of the decarbonization strategy, but is also the focus of scientific and political interest. Three decades after German reunification, local people are once again confronted with radical and comprehensive changes. How the population can participate successfully and as broadly as possible in regional development processes is a question that has to take into account not only economic and ecological, but also social and cultural conditions and consequences.
