Excursion through the surrounding countryside

Golden autumn during the study trip in the module "The Upper Lusatian half-timbered house"

In glorious autumn weather and under expert guidance, village settlement structures and unique Umgebinde houses were examined from a pedagogical and scientific perspective. The excursion participants included students from the Studium Fundamentale as well as students from the housing and real estate management and interested members of the public. For example, two experienced architects and a professor traveled from other federal states to take part in the events.

In the authentic ambience of the Alte Mangel in Ebersbach, a simple weaver's lunch was served with Abern, quark, linseed oil and Braajgel salt. Drinks and freshly pressed linseed oil from the Rennersdorf mill were provided by Prof. Worbs.

The module "The Upper Lusatian Umgebindehaus" is located at the Information Center Umgebindehaus (IZU) at the HSZG in the Faculty of Economics and Industrial Engineering. Prof. Thomas Worbs and Dr. Liane Vogel are responsible for the project.

What are Umgebinde houses?

Half-timbered houses are a special type of historic wooden house in which the log rooms on the first floor are surrounded by a supporting structure in front of them. This unique type of house is a cultural asset to be preserved. The Umgebinde houses are concentrated only in the border triangle of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic. It can therefore be said that the half-timbered houses are the face of the villages of Upper Lusatia. Special attention should be paid to the preservation and dissemination of knowledge about the Umgebinde houses.

Many thanks!

Special thanks go to the ladies from the Kultur- und Landschaftspflegeverein e.V . who turned the meal into a wonderful culinary experience.

We would like to thank Mr. Jürgen Cieslak for the guided tours and vivid explanations of the history, development, customs, construction and life in the Umgebindehaus:
