Electrical energy is one of the key technologies in our modern lives and will play an even more important role in all areas of life in the future. It is the backbone and Achilles heel of our society at the same time. Due to climate change, limited raw materials and catastrophes, the boundary conditions are changing rapidly and we must place the electrical energy system on a new basis for these new boundary conditions. Ideas, courage and energy are required from all of us.

With your studies in electrical power engineering you lay the foundation to actively shape our electrical power supply to decarbonization, more self-sufficient and autonomous proactively and thus contribute to the future. You are welcome to actively work on projects during your studies either with your KIA partner(KIA - Duales Studium an der HSZG) or at our company.

It's your choice

For the degree program in Automation and Mechatronics, you can choose between the regular diploma program or the KIA program.

What is KIA?

In the KIA variant (cooperative studies with integrated training), the diploma program is very well suited for future students who want to combine theory and practice. In addition to theoretical knowledge, you will also receive practical training and at the end of your studies you will not only receive a diploma, but also a certificate from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

    • General or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification or entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences or admission test.

    • Applicants with a qualification as a technician, business economist, master craftsman or similar. Completion of advanced vocational training according to §18(3) of the SächsHSFG must take part in a counseling interview for general university admission.

    Anyone who cares about a future in a sustainable world and wants to proactively help shape the path towards it. The course is suitable for anyone with an interest in electrical engineering/electronics, computer science and/or physics.

    Structure of the Electrical Energy Systems degree program

    Basic studies in electrical engineering

    • Engineering fundamentals in mathematics, physics and mechanics
    • Fundamentals of electrical engineering, measurement technology, computer science
    • Economic fundamentals, foreign languages, general scientific fundamentals 

    The degree program is divided into core modules and elective modules, which students can use to adapt their own personal profile.

    • Electrical systems and grid technology (electrical energy systems, electrical grids, high-voltage technology, protection and grid technology, stresses in energy systems, diagnostics and monitoring)
    • Intelligent grid management (concepts for intelligent grid management of the future, control technology, operation of intelligent grids)
    • Electric power generation (solar energy technology, wind and hydropower, storage technologies)
    • Intelligent communication technology in electrical energy technology (control systems/industrial data communication, communication networks, building automation/energy management) 
  • Study program

    During the introductory semesters (1st-4th semester), the basics of the subject are taught largely independently of your previous knowledge and consolidated in accompanying seminars and various practical experiments. The professors' focus here is on imparting knowledge on the one hand and on understanding and comprehension on the other, as the accompanying seminars and practical experiments are carried out in small groups with direct supervision by the laboratory engineers and/or professors and individual questions can therefore also be discussed in detail. Building on the introductory semesters, the specialist studies begin, in which further in-depth study is made possible.

    With your degree in Electrical Energy Systems, you can embark on a national and international career in both small and large companies as a technical expert or in management. With us, you will have laid the foundations for your future career. This also includes the path to a doctorate in a cooperative process.
