The project focuses on securing the next generation of skilled workers in Upper Lusatia, particularly in the STEM sector.
Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and TU Dresden have jointly launched the BMBF-funded joint project "WIR! - Lausitz - Life & Technology - Future Learning Location Upper Lusatia ", in short ZukLOS for short.
The research project aims to investigate the potential of extracurricular education, particularly in the STEM sector. Through the exemplary testing of teaching-learning settings together with regional education providers, the survey of regional stakeholders and the involvement of young people as designers of their education, concrete recommendations for action for the further development of an already rich educational landscape will be derived in the future.
"We would like to thank everyone who supported us with the application," says Robert Viertel, project employee at the HSZG. "By implementing the advice and expertise of all those involved, we can develop Upper Lusatia into an even more attractive place to live and work for local people."
A kick-off event with the project teams from Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and TU Dresden took place at the Station für Technik, Naturwissenschaften, Kunst - Weißwasser e.V. in Weißwasser at the beginning of October to mark the start of the research project. At the event, the objectives of the research project were concretized and the work packages were further filled with life.
The contract was successfully awarded, project team member Christian Tiller is also pleased to report. The Constitute has been commissioned to carry out two three-day mobile STEM workshops with a design workshop. The Station für Technik, Naturwissenschaften, Kunst - Weißwasser e.V. will provide active support in the development and testing of new concepts for extracurricular learning for the future learning location Oberlausitz. The subcontract to organize the final transfer conference was awarded to the Landesverband Sächsischer Jugendbildungswerke e.V. (LJBW e.V.).
Under the direction of The Constitute, the first STEM workshop with design workshop took place at the Station für Technik, Naturwissenschaften, Kunst - Weißwasser e.V . at the end of October. Using the Station für Technik, Naturwissenschaften, Kunst - Weißwasser e.V. as an example, the workshop developed answers to the question of what makes the future learning location of Upper Lusatia more attractive for young people and how stationary learning locations can be meaningfully linked with mobile learning opportunities. At the end of the workshop, the young people presented their vision with the help of a spatial model.
As part of the 3rd L& T alliance meeting, the workshop will take place on 30.11.2021 between 13:30 and 15:00 . "Extracurricular STEM education of the future: What new technologies and skills does Upper Lusatia need?" will take place.
Together with all participants, the aim is to discuss which technologies will shape Upper Lusatia as a business location in the future and how young people can be introduced to these technologies. "In this context, we are paying particular attention to the question of how STEM education in Upper Lusatia is currently assessed and how it should develop further," explains Christian Tiller. This is followed by the skills that young people need in order to actively shape structural change in their region and become the skilled workers of tomorrow.
You can register for the 3rd L&T alliance meeting here.
The transfer conference "Zukunftslernort Oberlausitz" will take place on 14.07.2022. At the event, those responsible for the project will present the current status of the project and discuss implications for extracurricular STEM education in the region.
