The HSZG welcomed around 800 guests to a large marquee on the Görlitz campus for the matriculation ceremony on September 29.
Great to have you here! On September 29, the HSZG welcomed around 800 guests to celebrate the start of student life together. In addition to the 630 newly enrolled first-year students and their families, numerous guests of honor from other institutions accepted the Rector's invitation in a festive atmosphere.
For the first time, the matriculation ceremony took place in a large marquee on the Görlitz campus. The official ceremony was hosted by Victoria Hohlfeld (University Development and Communication Office) and Lennart Höhne (newly graduated Master of International Tourism Management). The ceremony was accompanied by music from computer science student Jonathan Zopf on the electric piano and Cti Hang on the hang drum.
After the senate moved in, the Lord Mayor of Görlitz, Octavian Ursu, and the Lord Mayor of Zittau, Thomas Zenker , jointly addressed the new students. Both emphasized the advantages that Görlitz and Zittau offer for studying and wished the newly enrolled students all the best for their future academic life.
Rector Prof. Alexander Kratzsch then welcomed the new students in his matriculation speech. He emphasized that, with Upper Lusatia, they had chosen a region in transition, whose significant change processes they could help shape together with university partners from business and society in order to gain important experience as the experts of tomorrow. The HSZG provides the necessary tools for this.
Rector Kratzsch was particularly pleased to present the new HSZG Campus App which will make student life easier for newly enrolled students thanks to its many integrated features. In addition to technical innovations, he concluded with another surprise.
The subsequent symbolic act of matriculation was performed by the deans of the university and Dr. Lucie Koutková as representative of the Studienkolleg. In a live talk, they introduced their faculties and the preparatory college to the audience, whereupon the Rector concluded the official act of matriculation with the words: "I hereby enrol you at the HSZG!".
The Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil, then reported on the HSZG's commitment to its students as part of the university's own University For Future and Campus4You processes, which, together with other development strategies of the university, raise the quality of studies in Zittau and Görlitz to a new level.
As commitment works best on both sides, the Vice-Rector then honored this year's recipients of the Germany Scholarship at the HSZG, which is awarded annually for special student and personal achievements. In her subsequent speech, scholarship recipient Josefine Wiethe spoke about her very personal experiences at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and encouraged all newly enrolled students to go their own way.
The ceremony was followed by the obligatory freshers' photo shoot in the courtyard between the canteen and G II and then it was party, party, party! With delicious, sparkling drinks and hearty food, the space in front of the marquee was used to celebrate the start of studies in the best autumn weather. The DJs catkin83 and 4loud as well as the spectacular live performance by the Zittau band JENIX provided the right party atmosphere.

The event was supported by the HSZG Student Council. Many employees from all structural units of the university and external trades helped with the preparation and implementation. A big "thank you" goes to everyone involved!
