KIA: The study program that shapes careers

Jonas and Fanol give an insight into their KIA success stories at Frequenz Elektro GmbH.

The cooperative study program with integrated training (KIA) at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) has had a transformative effect on the lives of students like Jonas Nenke and Fanol Shala. These personal success stories provide insights into the innovative educational offer, which is characterized by close cooperation between the university and Frequenz Elektro GmbH.

The decision to start KIA: Jonas Nenke

Jonas Nenke, a motivated student from near Radeberg, is about to take his final exams to become an electronics technician for automation technology. His journey began in the eleventh grade when he decided to study engineering. He chose the dual study program at HSZG, attracted by the integrated training and the promising career opportunities. He received information about this at a university information day (HIT), which was offered online, and on the university's dual study website he received comprehensive information about the university's dual study programs and cooperation partners. In the end, he opted for Frequenz Elektro GmbH near his home town.

Thanks to preparatory courses at the university and intensive support from contacts at the company, Jonas mastered the initial challenges and is now in his 3rd semester. He is now in the hot phase of his final examination to become a skilled worker.

Fanol Shala: An international profile of success

Fanol Shala's path to studying at KIA was characterized by special challenges. After arriving from Kosovo, he completed an apprenticeship at Frequenz Elektro GmbH in Radeberg. He then wanted to start studying, but his Abitur was not recognized in Germany. He therefore completed another year at the Studienkolleg in Dresden, while continuing to work at Frequenz Elektro GmbH. He received his university entrance qualification on completion of the Studienkolleg. As he already had his skilled worker qualification, he started his KIApro degree in automation/mechatronics in the 2018 winter semester.

Fanol's story is a testament to the flexibility and support that the KIA program offers foreign students.

Integration into working life and cultural adaptation

Both Jonas and Fanol experienced comprehensive onboarding at Frequenz Elektro GmbH, including an etiquette course and an introduction to the corporate culture. The students rotated through all departments of the company, giving them a deep integration and understanding of the company. This hands-on experience, along with financial support, allows students to transition seamlessly into their careers upon graduation.

Living and learning: a balanced KIA experience

Despite the demanding rotation between studies and work, Jonas and Fanol emphasize how they enjoy and use their free time to relax and network. Jonas, who appreciates the leisure opportunities in Zittau, and Fanol, who lives in an international shared flat and travels to Kosovo on his vacations, show that KIA studies also offer space for personal development and social interaction. KIA students at Frequenz Elektro GmbH even receive a dormitory allowance and there is a shared dormitory for trainees in Radeberg.

Cooperation and vision for the future

The intensive cooperation between Frequenz Elektro GmbH and the university is a core element of the KIA program. With a target takeover rate of 100 %, the company shows a strong commitment to employing its KIA graduates in the long term. Jonas and Fanol's stories show how the KIA program provides students with a platform to launch and shape their careers, while allowing companies to invest in the future of their skilled workforce needs.
