"How democratic are our schools?" - A review of the Partnership for Democracy conference at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences
On September 18, 2024, a conference of the Partnership for Democracy took place on the campus of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. Around 80 participants, including pupils and educational professionals, discussed democratic co-determination at schools under the title "Old school, new school, your school?". A panel discussion highlighted both the pupils' desire to have a greater say and the time challenges this poses for everyday school life. In addition to the discussion, there were various offers available, for example on the topics of class councils and media use. The conference not only provided the participants with a variety of ideas, but also a valuable platform for exchange and networking in the field of democracy education.
The project is funded as part of the City of Görlitz's Partnership for Democracy by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) through the federal program "Live Democracy!", the State Prevention Council of Saxony and the City of Görlitz. This measure is co-financed with tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the members of the Saxon state parliament.
