On 28.10.2020, Ms. Carina Bentele successfully completed her bachelor thesis on the topic

"Flocculation properties of sludges containing iron hydroxide for continuous dewatering in a decanter centrifuge"

in the new rooms of the CELSIUZ . The pleasant room atmosphere and the very good technical equipment, combined with the student's excellent performance, impressed all participants and aroused anticipation for further events at CELSIUZ.

The topic is part of a cooperative research project between iTN Zittau (Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences) and P.U.S. Produktions- und Umweltservice GmbH in Lauta.

Extensive literature and patent research was carried out as part of the work. Various flocculants for use with finely to very finely dispersed sludges containing iron hydroxide were investigated. The aim was the scientific penetration of the flocculation process and its metrological representation in the form of flow potential measurements, the agglomerate size distribution and the agglomerate stability. For this purpose, the starting materials were characterized and a suitable combination of substances for use in a continuously operating decanter was determined after investigation.
