Almost simultaneously with the start of the new winter semester 2018/19, the new laboratory for electromagnetic compatibility was inaugurated in Zittau after a construction period of around one year.

EMC stands for the conflict-free interaction of high-power electrical components with sensitive electronic control systems in a confined space. The enormous changes in this field in recent years made a new laboratory necessary.

In addition to the latest computer-controlled measuring technology, two large measuring cabins are available in which the smallest field strengths of the interference emission can be measured or high field strengths can be generated for immunity testing, shielded from the outside world, without affecting surrounding equipment.

When setting up and equipping the measuring stations, attention was paid to compliance with current international standards. On the one hand, this allows us to offer students of electrical engineering practical training in an environment similar to that of other testing institutes. On the other hand, this also ensures the comparability of the results obtained in the laboratory with other laboratories, which is essential for research tasks and cooperation with other institutions.

In addition, the laboratory capacity that has been built up is also available to companies that do not have such specialized knowledge and resources. The first services for local companies have already been provided.
