New university council meets for the first time!

The committee agrees on working methods and objectives for the next five years.

August 2020 tagte der neu konstituierte Hochschulrat erstmalig gemeinsam mit dem Rektorat der HSZG (v.l.n.r.: Prof. Dr. Raj Kollmorgen, Prorektor Forschung, Prof. Dr. Alexander Kratzsch, Rektor, Christoph Matthias Duscha, Dezernent DPR in Vertretung der Kanzlerin, Prof. Dr. Welf-Guntram Drossel, Institutsleiter des Fraunhofer-Institutes für Werkzeugmaschinen und Unformtechnik IWU und Erster Vorsitzender des HSR, Prof. Dr. Roland Giese, Professor at the Faculty of Management and Cultural Sciences and member of the HSR, Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil, Vice-Rector Education and International Affairs, Thomas Zenker, Mayor of the City of Zittau and member of the HSR, Prof. Dr. Gerlinde Kretschmar, Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and member of the HSR and Theresa Rinecker, General Superintendent and member of the HSR. Tackling the challenges of the future together! In line with this vision, the newly constituted University Council met for the first time on Wednesday, August 26, in the Senate Hall of the Hans-Joachim-Hildebrand-Haus in Zittau.

First of all, the new and old members got to know each other better in a pleasant atmosphere. The committee around the new First Chairman, Prof. Dr. Welf-Guntram Drossel, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU in Chemnitz, , agreed on their working methods and objectives for the term of office from 2020 to 2025.

"I see the University Council as a strategic driving force for the university management, which aims to support the university in acting as a central player in the structural change of the region. In this way, we will also critically scrutinize, because that is what makes constructive cooperation," says First Chairman Prof. Drossel.

Alongside him, all members present expressed their great motivation to actively help shape the future of the university and to act as advisors and discussion partners who will bring different perspectives to the Rectorate. "Perspectives that are intended to convey a feeling for how society and the academic landscape perceive certain issues and which then promote a more comprehensive evaluation of decisions," says Prof. Dr. Welf-Guntram Drossel.

A project that the Rector of the HSZG, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch, also welcomes. Together with the Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs, Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil, the Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Dr. Raj Kollmorgen and RD Christoph Duscha (representing the Chancellor, Ms. Karin Hollstein), he defined the main areas of work in the cooperation between the Rectorate and the University Council in consultation with the Council members, presented the situation report and looks forward to a joint, productive cooperation.

"Whether sharpening our own profile in times of structural change, promoting the acceptance of digitalization in teaching or tasks associated with demographic change - the university management and the university as such are facing major challenges. The first important steps have been taken. Now it is time - also together with the newly constituted University Council - to continue on this path together. And I am very much looking forward to this journey," said the Rector.
