The first volume in the "Inclusion and Society" series published by Frank & Timme Verlag was written by Professor Norbert Störmer.
Under the title "Inclusion between Utopia and Reality", university member Professor Norbert Störmer published a comprehensive work as an academic contribution to the topic of "Inclusion and Society".
With the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) by the German government, the concept of inclusion has gained in importance. Demands for the equality of people who are usually considered "disabled" were suddenly omnipresent, and participation became the order of the day. However, a certain "inclusion rhetoric" also developed in the relevant debates. Although there was a lot of talk about inclusion, the necessary structural changes were slow or did not progress at all. The term "inclusion" was often used to feign a willingness to change, only to remain in seemingly "tried and tested" ways. However, the UN CRPD demands changes in all areas of social life. Norbert Störmer contrasts desire and reality and shows where there are corresponding activities and where there are not (yet). In doing so, he points out the potential for change that the concept of inclusion carries within it and which must be demanded again and again, both professionally and politically.
Dr. phil. Norbert Störmer is a professor of special education/disability education at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, where he has primarily taught the basics, didactics, methodology and therapy of special education/disability education as well as general education. His research focuses on challenging behaviors, communication, speech and perception impairments as well as dealing with challenging behaviors in group situations. Professor Störmer retired from active university service at the end of the 2016 summer semester.
