HSZG remains strong in research

The "Funding Atlas 2024" shows that the HSCG scores highly in the field of research in engineering and natural sciences, as well as in economics and social sciences.

On November 25, 2024, the German Research Foundation (DFG ), together with the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) and the Stifterverband (SV), published the "Funding Atlas 2024" was presented. The Funding Atlas provides information on public funding for research in Germany and has been published by the DFG every three years since 1997. The reporting period of the recently published edition covers the years 2020 to 2022.

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is once again strong in research and third-party funding. Our university scores well in its traditional field of engineering and natural sciences - for example in the areas of energy and materials research - as well as in economics and social sciences, e.g. in engagement and innovation research.

Two criteria and rankings of the HSZG underline this in exemplary fashion:

  • Among all German universities (HAW, FH), it ranks 20th as a small university with 13.5 million euros in the federal government's R&D funding ranking for 2020-2022.
  • Of all 442 universities and universities of applied sciences listed in Germany, the HSZG is in 28th place for 2022 in terms of the share of third-party funding income in the total budget (expenditure) of the respective university. With its share of 28.4 percent, it is among the top 10 percent of all German universities.

The university management congratulates all researchers and supporting members and affiliates of our university on these results and rankings. We are pleased that in the last two years (2023/2024) new and high-quality third-party funded projects have been acquired by members of the university and would like to thank all those involved.

If you have any questions or problems regarding externally funded research (calls for proposals, applications, processing, dissemination of results, etc.), the responsible research officers of the faculties, the project managers of the institutes and the Research Office will be happy to answer your questions.
