Ingeniously social

The HSZG as a partner of the Saxony-wide project "Aktionstag genialsozial 2015"

As part of the Saxony-wide project "Aktionstag genialsozial 2015" on July 7 (www.genialsozial.de), Sebastian Swoboda, a 9th grade student at Christian Weise Gymnasium, worked at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. On this day of action, pupils swap their school desk for a paid job for a day in order to carry out supporting activities. The wages earned on this day are donated to humanitarian projects.

Mr. Swoboda carried out experiments on the large-scale test rig "Zittauer Strömungswanne" together with the laboratory manager of the thermohydraulics laboratory of the Institute of Process Engineering, Process Automation and Measurement Technology (IPM), Dipl.-Ing. Sören Alt. The objective was to experimentally determine data on the characteristics of a newly installed cooler. During the morning, Mr. Swoboda varied the primary-side volume flows through the cooler, kept the test log and operated the measurement and control system of the test facility. In the afternoon, he evaluated the data so that a characteristic curve for the heat transfer behavior of the cooler is now available.

The tests carried out and the data evaluation serve as a basis for future experiments on a semi-industrial scale in the BMWi-funded research project "Local effects in the PWR core as a result of zinc borate deposits after LOCA" under the project management of Prof. Dr.-Ing.

The day at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences gave Mr. Swoboda an insight into current research work and, above all, access to existing test facilities and installed modern automation technology. We would like to thank Mr. Swoboda for his supportive work and commitment and wish him continued success on his path to graduation.

Die Versuchsanlage “Zittauer Strömungswanne” (ZSW) ist mit 6 m Länge und 3 m Höhe der größte Versuchsstand im Thermohydraulik-Labor des IPM.

At 6 m long and 3 m high, the "Zittauer Strömungswanne" (ZSW) test facility is the largest test rig in the IPM's thermohydraulics laboratory.
