M.Sc. Lars Rönisch took over the management of the University Computer Center on 1.9.22.
Of well-considered decisions, many years of experience and visions. The HSZG's public relations team met the new head of the University Computer Center, Lars Rönisch, for an interview.
Mr. Rönisch, you will take over the management of the University Computer Centre on 01.09.2022. When did you decide to apply for the vacancy?
The starting point for my decision was a discussion about services and the associated processes that are offered via university IT. There was some content that I critically questioned in the service consultation. During the consultation, the faculty management motivated me to apply for the position of Head of the University IT Center in order to support the HSZG. But it wasn't that easy, as a father of four children I have obligations. So I needed the approval of my family. A fortunate circumstance helped. My wife was elected mayor of our municipality in June of this year and therefore works locally. Childcare is secured and the decision to apply was made.
You come from the Department of Computer Science at the HSZG. What areas of responsibility did you cover there and what overlaps do you see with regard to your new management role?
During my 15 years in the Department of Computer Science, I was responsible for laboratory management, organization and resource management as Head Laboratory Engineer / Dean's Council. Together with the staff, I have realigned the IT infrastructure and the associated processes of our department to the current and future requirements of teaching and research in recent years. My tasks consisted of developing the concepts and planning the financial resources for individual projects. I will be able to draw on the results and experience gained in my future role as Head of the University Computer Center. The range of tasks is the same, but the scale is much larger.
Software, hardware, network and access. The range of tasks at the HRZ is very broad. You need a strong team behind you. What can your employees expect from you?
I want to be a good coach for my team and advise my colleagues on specialist topics. Develop a culture of debate to get the best result in the end. Manage projects so that every employee organizes their own success and is thus motivated to solve the exciting tasks of tomorrow.
What goals have you set yourself for the HRZ?
I would like to put the university's current IT processes to the test and reorganize them if necessary. This will certainly also result in structural changes. My vision is a center for digitalization. This center should combine expertise in the provision and operation of IT systems and IT networks, taking into account data protection and data security, eLearning from a technical perspective and software management, in order to focus more strongly on the needs of employees and students.
