This year, on the occasion of the DIES ACADEMICUS, students from the faculty and other interested parties visited the Ökohof Wobst in Mittelherwigsdorf. Here they were able to find out about numerous regenerative energy generation plants with a wide range of operating principles in various performance classes. The visit was rounded off with a lecture by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Schmidt (Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Zittau-Görlitz University of Applied Sciences) entitled "Operation of an electrical energy supply network with decentralized regenerative feeders". Everyone was particularly impressed by Dr. Wobst's wind turbine, which was one of the first (commissioned in 1994) to be built in the state of Saxony. The simple and robust generator principle based on the Danish concept with a pole-changing three-phase asynchronous machine allows machine running times of several decades, even if the optimum operating point of the wind turbine cannot always be set. Visitors were also able to get an idea of the everyday concerns of an energy producer with regard to energy consumption, distribution, tariffs and taxation.
