On Thursday, at the invitation of Saxony5, university employees and partners from the companies of the KIA degree programs came to the gallery of the Peter-Dierich-Haus (Z IV). The second edition of the event series "Cheese & Wine" was a complete success: over 70 participants enjoyed conversations with new and old employees of the university over white and red wine, delicious cheese and homemade non-alcoholic cocktails to the sound of Caribbean music. In particular, those involved in the AMiCE, LaNDER3 and Saxony5 projects at the university answered curious questions about the status of their networking activities and research.
The Institute of Process Engineering, Process Automation and Metrology (IPM) was represented and brought high-tech to try out. Among other things, two virtual reality (VR) goggles were set up for visitors to explore and try out. There was lively discussion about the university's research and equipment. Together with students and entrepreneurs, new project ideas were considered. For example, the VR glasses brought along could be used to visualize not only tools and components, but also complex molecules such as enzymes and their conversion from substrates.
An artificial neural network from the laptop also contributed to the inspiration. It visually recognizes 80 different things, from apples to buses, via a webcam and names them over the loudspeaker. Visitors were also able to playfully experience how difficult it is to stabilize a power grid using a simulation and the challenges that will soon be faced in the CELSIUZ transfer laboratory on the subject of supply infrastructure.
Contact the Saxony5 team if you would like to demonstrate something from your faculty or institute at the next edition of Cheese & Wine.
