Get to know the faces behind the projects

University staff and KIA partners discuss the latest developments at the HSZG at Cheese & Wine.

On Thursday, at the invitation of Saxony5, university employees and partners from the companies of the KIA degree programs came to the gallery of the Peter-Dierich-Haus (Z IV). The second edition of the event series "Cheese & Wine" was a complete success: over 70 participants enjoyed conversations with new and old employees of the university over white and red wine, delicious cheese and homemade non-alcoholic cocktails to the sound of Caribbean music. In particular, those involved in the AMiCE, LaNDER3 and Saxony5 projects at the university answered curious questions about the status of their networking activities and research.

The Institute of Process Engineering, Process Automation and Metrology (IPM) was represented and brought high-tech to try out. Among other things, two virtual reality (VR) goggles were set up for visitors to explore and try out. There was lively discussion about the university's research and equipment. Together with students and entrepreneurs, new project ideas were considered. For example, the VR glasses brought along could be used to visualize not only tools and components, but also complex molecules such as enzymes and their conversion from substrates.

An artificial neural network from the laptop also contributed to the inspiration. It visually recognizes 80 different things, from apples to buses, via a webcam and names them over the loudspeaker. Visitors were also able to playfully experience how difficult it is to stabilize a power grid using a simulation and the challenges that will soon be faced in the CELSIUZ transfer laboratory on the subject of supply infrastructure.

Contact the Saxony5 team if you would like to demonstrate something from your faculty or institute at the next edition of Cheese & Wine.

  • Find out more about the Saxony⁵ project

The five Saxon universities of applied sciences (HAW) in Mittweida, Zwickau, Zittau/Görlitz, Dresden and Leipzig have been working together in teaching and research since 2007. With the launch of the Saxony5 transfer network in 2017, they have also beenpooling their expertise and resources to fulfill their third mission - research-based transfer. The basis for this is a joint transfer strategy for the intelligent networking of knowledge flows in a Smart University Grid.

The co-creation labs are an important part of the network. They bundle the HAW's specialist strengths and experimental possibilities in top market and socially relevant topics such as networked mobility. They are used to exchange information on requirements and transfer offers, to demonstrate new technologies and to test ideas and solutions.
