"They don't wipe the tables properly!"

HSZG contribution to the lecture series on "Current challenges of social work in the contexts of age(ing)" focuses on racism-critical perspectives in neighborhood work with older people.

The increasingly diverse life situations in old age as well as the challenges and opportunities of an ageing society have also been gaining importance for social work in various contexts for several years.

In the lecture series "Aktuelle Herausforderungen der Sozialen Arbeit in Kontexten des Alter(n)s", which has been running since the start of the winter semester 2022/23, research assistant and lecturer for special tasks Monique Ritter M.A. will give a lecture on the topic of neighborhood work with older people together with Marlene Jänsch from Fulda University of Applied Sciences on 15.12.2022. Under the title: "They don't wipe the tables properly", both want to raise awareness of a racism-critical perspective and action practice in this field with their lecture.

The cross-university online lecture series, to which Monique Ritter and the specialist group "Social Work in the Contexts of Age(ing)" (of the German Society for Social Work) are jointly inviting , provides social work students with an interdisciplinary insight into how social work can become involved in the contexts of age(ing). At the same time, the aim is to encourage critical reflection on social conditions, challenges and ambivalences.

A wide range of topics

-   by examining the significance of images of old age, the "promise of solutions" of age-appropriate assistance systems or "caring communities" (also) for social work practice,

-   on socio-spatial challenges in the context of housing and living in old age as well as perspectives critical of racism in neighborhood work with older people,

-   to the multi-layered challenges of geragogical and socio-pedagogical approaches in working with people in the increasingly diverse phase of old age, which is not only increasingly polarized in socio-political terms according to ability. Last but not least, the latter raises complex, in many respects unresolved questions of participation (opportunities) in "old age".

Challenges and opportunities of an ageing society

Students of social work are cordially invited to all events of the lecture series without prior registration.

At the end of each online lecture, the participating students will have the opportunity to network across universities, for example with regard to the thematic discussion in the context of qualification work up to the doctorate.

The exact program and the event links can be found here

The lecture series is an initiative of the subgroup Age(ing) and Teaching in Social Work, the DGSA Division of Social Work in the Context of Age(ing).
