On science and politics in times of Corona

Despite high incidence figures, especially in eastern Saxony, many citizens are questioning scientific findings and the resulting political decisions.
We ask ourselves: Has the corona crisis taken away the trust of Upper Lusatians in science?
Why do large sections of the population not believe scientific findings? How does science work at all? How are political decisions based on scientific findings? How can science and society come together again?
We want to discuss these questions at our online dialog events as part of the Saxony5 transfer project under the name "#coronadialog - Who can you still believe?" together with scientists from the HSZG, politicians, citizens of the district of Görlitz and all other interested parties.
The 1st dialog on the topic "Can we still believe science?" will also take place online on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 7 pm.
In our first event, we will discuss the work of science in the special situation of the coronavirus pandemic. But how do scientific findings find their way into politics? Who decides which scientists are consulted for political decisions? What processes and connections exist between politics, business and science?
Impulse:
"How is a corona measure created?" Dr. Claudia Maicher, Member of the State Parliament, Chairwoman of the Committee for Science, Higher Education, Media, Culture and Tourism
