Will the electricity supply remain stable and affordable?

Cross and lateral thinking: The science-citizen dialog (Online)

What's next for energy? Will electricity prices continue to rise? Are our grids safe from a blackout? How can we reconcile the needs of both industry and the environment?

The last German nuclear power plants will be taken off the grid in 2022. The new German government wants to end coal-fired power generation (and heating) by 2030. The fact is that electricity prices have risen by 23% in the last 10 years. In the meantime, the consequences of man-made climate change are not only reaching remote areas such as Antarctica or the Maldives, but are also causing rivers and thermometers in Upper Lusatia to rise, and large parts of the forests in our region are already dead due to drought summers and bark beetles.

How will the trend continue? Are there threats of further price increases and blackouts? Can we switch to renewable energies and storage fast enough or will we become dependent on coal and nuclear power from neighboring countries?

We want to get to the bottom of these questions and discuss them. Ms. Kerstin Doerenbruch from Greenpeace Berlin and Prof. Tobias Zschunke from the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will first present their views on the topic and then continue the discussion with the involvement of the audience. Cornelius Pollmer will moderate the event.

We appreciate your interest. Feel free to join us, ask your questions and take part in the discussion!
