One of the biggest challenges of technology companies is the communication between the economists and the IT'ers. Serious project delays often occur because the people responsible for the interface either don't understand enough economics or have no idea about computer science.

    General or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification or entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences.

    Applicants with a qualification as a technician, business economist, master craftsman or similar. Completion of advanced vocational training according to §18(3) of the SächsHSFG must take part in a counseling interview for general university admission.

  • Contents

    Contents of the Business and Computer Science degree course

    On the Business and Computer Science degree course, you will study computer science together with future software developers and business together with future business people in order to prepare you for a career at the interface between these two groups. You will therefore study two equally important subjects.

    The contents of the lectures are:

    • Fundamentals e.g. law, foreign language, empirical social research
    • Economics e.g. management, economics, general business administration, accounting
    • Computer science
    • Common e.g. operating systems, object-oriented programming, software engineering, databases, business information systems, ERP integration, computer architecture
    • In-depth analysis e.g. business process modeling
    • Management specialization e.g. computer networks, IT security
  • Study program
    • 1st to 4th semester: Basic studies
    • 5th semester: Semester abroad
    • 6th semester: Internship; then - on request - writing a Bachelor's thesis
  • Career prospects

    Graduates of this degree program will develop and operate software solutions or IT landscapes with interdisciplinary teams in companies, research institutions and public bodies both nationally and internationally. The two specializations "Analyst" and "IT Service Management" enable the following career paths:

    • Analyst: career entry - process consultant/analyst; career development - project manager
    • Service Management: Career entry - IT Service Expert, Career development - IT Service Manager

     

    The typical tasks at these career levels are:


    Process Consultant/Analyst:

    • Business process analysis and optimization
    • Analysis and description of technical requirements
    • Implementation of requirements management
    • Creation of technical concepts

     

    Project manager:

    • Planning, implementation and monitoring of complex software development and IT consulting projects
    • Setting up project organization and communication
    • Management of project teams
    • Responsibility for deadlines, quality and budget targets

     

    IT service experts/IT service managers:

    • Development of infrastructure and IT systems
    • Design of infrastructure landscapes, e.g. client-server
    • migration

    • administration
    • Business process optimization at infrastructure level
