All experts, decision-makers and consumers agree on one thing: cultural offerings of all kinds enhance the quality of life of individuals, companies and regions. Worldwide networking tends to reinforce the trend toward cultural leisure activities in the regions. Since many cultural offerings and institutions - especially those of so-called high culture - in Germany are financed by the public sector, the problem arises that there is a need for action due to limited financial resources of the municipalities on the one hand and growing financial needs of these institutions on the other. Creative solutions to problems are needed here. In addition, the trendy areas of the cultural and creative industries are urgently looking for interdisciplinary and creatively trained talent, for which this degree program, with its versatile mix of cultural and management modules, lends itself like few others.

The aim of the program is to provide future cultural managers and creative professionals from a wide range of fields with a sound education in the field of cultural and management sciences. The course is both application-oriented and academic. This enables graduates to shape both the cultural quality and the economic process of cultural institutions and events in such a way that a high artistic standard and a strong broad impact can be realized within the framework of the available budgets and possible self-financing. In the European context, too, innovative, risk-taking and responsible graduates should be trained for the most diverse areas of the cultural and creative industries, cultural institutions, cultural administration and cultural policy.
The theoretically sound yet practice-oriented teaching focuses on five major areas of expertise:
Practical relevance is ensured by the professors and teaching staff in courses, through independent student projects and through cooperation with regional and national cultural and art enterprises (theaters, museums, concert organizers, socio-cultural centers, companies in the cultural and creative industries and many others). Regular excursions take students to partner universities and other cultural centers in Europe, preparing them for an international career.
The Culture and Management degree course is a degree course with an international focus. It combines a semester abroad and practical work experience phases with study sections organized directly at the university.
Contacts abroad with a large number of European universities offer a wide choice for the semester abroad and, if necessary, an internship abroad. Our university has a large network of partner institutions. In Central Europe this ranges from Krakow, Wroclaw, Prague, Riga, Vilnius, Pécs to Cluj, in Western Europe to Salamanca, in Southern Europe from Naples and Benevento to Balgoevgrad, in Eastern Europe from St. Petersburg, Helsinki and Stockholm to Tbilisi.
Graduates of the Culture and Management degree program are able to shape artistic and creative processes and their results both in their aesthetic dimensions and from the point of view of economic contexts and to assess their effects as well as to manage cultural enterprises economically.
