About the degree program

As a graduate of the Bachelor's degree program in Applied Nursing Science, you will have a comprehensive application- and science-oriented skills profile for all target groups of professional nursing care. After completing the program, you will be able to assess highly complex care situations and develop appropriate solutions as well as implement high-quality care for all target groups in a wide variety of care settings. In addition, you will have extended medical skills in accordance with the Nursing Professions Act and the Nursing Studies Strengthening Act. This enables you to make a valuable contribution to the health and well-being of people in need of care. You can train relatives and team members and advise them on health issues and rehabilitative, activating care. You will already be working on small research projects during your studies and will therefore be able to actively participate in the further development of nursing care in a scientifically sound manner. After completing your studies, you can work in all areas of nursing, nationally and internationally, in acute care (hospital), long-term care (retirement home), outpatient care (social care center/home care) and in all other healthcare facilities.

With the perfect mix of theory and practice, you will be optimally prepared for your professional life. In the theoretical part, you will build up a foundation of knowledge in health and nursing sciences. The practical part of the course prepares you perfectly for professional life from the first semester onwards. In addition, you will practice what you have learned in theory, first under supervision and then independently in the
nursing simulation laboratory (Sim/SkillsLab) from the first semester onwards.

You will be supported and accompanied by your professors and lecturers as well as the practical instructors of our cooperation partners in nursing practice during all stages of your studies.

Studying with us means that you learn using modern methods and media:

  • Simulation training in the university's nursing simulation laboratory (Sim/SkillsLab) and virtually supported teaching/learning
  • Learning using case studies, creativity methods and portfolio work
  • Carrying out student projects and research work
  • Excursions

Your Bachelor's degree in Nursing is characterized by interprofessional thinking and action.

The course starts in the last week of September or the first week of October with the introductory week at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, followed by alternating semesters of study at the university and practical periods in various companies in outpatient and inpatient acute and long-term care.

Step 5: Semester schedule

The semesters usually run as follows:

  2. If applicable, internship at a company under the guidance of the company's practical instructor and supervision by the university

  4. In the subsequent lecture-free period, approx. 50% self-study time and then approx. 50% work at the company with which the training contract exists (during this time, the company also grants leave under the collective agreement).
