Senate ends term of office

The last meeting of the outgoing Senate of the HSZG took place on June 17. The Rectorate would like to thank them for their dedicated and successful work.

The last meeting of the outgoing Senate of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) took place on Monday afternoon. This meeting marks the end of the Senate's term of office, which has shaped the university since September 1, 2019. The newly elected Senate will take up its work in the coming winter semester. The Rectorate took the opportunity to thank the members of the outgoing Senate for their dedicated and successful work during their term of office.

Looking back on the last five years, Rector Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch personally acknowledged the numerous achievements and constructive cooperation within the committee, which was still actively involved in shaping the future at its last meeting and advised on the establishment of the "Applied Nursing Science" degree course, which will soon be launched. This was another important step towards expanding the range of courses offered by the HSZG, with which the university is also making a contribution to overcoming structural challenges in the region.

A highlight of the day was the subsequent tour of the new fitness room on the Görlitz campus. This was previously quite small and simple compared to the one on the Zittau campus. The renovation of the "Alte Mälzerei", the building behind the so-called Tivoli, finally provided the opportunity to unite all university sports in Görlitz under one roof. The Department of Technology and Facility Management had already actively supported this project under the former Chancellor. After lengthy negotiations with the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism (SMWK) and the Saxon State Real Estate and Construction Management (SIB), funding was secured.

The equipment in the new fitness room, which was financed from the university's reserves, is completely new and modern. The University Council approved 100,000 euros for this. The premises extend over two levels: In the upper area, the focus is on guided training on equipment, while the lower area focuses on functional training with free weights. Since opening on March 25, 2024, over 150 students and employees have already enrolled. Due to high demand, capacity will be increased to 200 places from the winter semester 2024/25.

This final meeting marks the end of an important era for Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. We would like to thank all members of the outgoing Senate for their valuable work and look forward to future developments under the aegis of the new Senate.
