Good constructions!

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was the keynote speaker at this year’s Görlitz District School Conference on September 26, presenting three forward-looking projects:

• Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil presented the current status of the Upper Lusatia Future Learning Center and related initiatives in extracurricular STEM education.
• Kerstin Korb and Lars Rönisch presented the new campus app “MyHSZG” and its features for students and teachers.
• David Sauer introduced the “Digital School” project and the network for computer science education.

The school conference took place at the Energy CoWorking Space in Görlitz with nearly 60 participants from all types of schools. The School and Sports Office of the Görlitz District and the Education Service Center of the Development Company Niederschlesische Oberlausitz mbH (ENO) had extended an invitation to present the diverse opportunities offered by the Görlitz District and key partners. Presentations were given by Ms. Kieschnick, Head of the Görlitz District School and Sports Office; Ms. Heublein (Head of the ENO Education Service Center); and Ms. Wild-Noisten (Project Manager at ENO).

The HSZG’s presentations were very well received by those in attendance. In particular, the combination of the campus app, the school computer science network, and the wide range of orientation programs for students demonstrates the HSZG’s determination to make a comprehensive commitment to the future of our region’s youth.

That is why the Vice President’s message to schools was: “Through the Upper Lusatia Future Learning Center, we are fulfilling our mission as a university to continuously advance innovative extracurricular educational programs for all types of schools—programs that students can take advantage of early on. In doing so, we are supporting the shared goal of all stakeholders to prepare young people for their transition into the working world while they are still in school.”

Ronald Lindecke from the District Parents’ Council wrote in his Facebook post about the projects presented by the HSZG: “Good concepts were presented; they could be groundbreaking and effectively and sustainably counteract the teacher shortage.”
