New standard for occupational health and safety management systems

Entrepreneurs show great interest in the new ISO 45001 standard at the 10th IMS breakfast on the Zittau campus.

In March 2018, ISO 45001 was published as the new ISO standard for occupational health and safety management systems. ISO 45001 replaces the previously widely used OHSAS 18001 without replacement during a three-year transition period.

The seminar room was packed with 30 participants, demonstrating the high level of interest shown by companies in this topic. The 10th IMS Breakfast provided information on the requirements of the new standard and discussed how companies have dealt with these points to date. In line with this, the project manager for occupational safety and energy management in the Quality and Environment division of Schnellecke Logistics in Wolfsburg (a graduate of our "Integrated Management" course) gave a practical presentation on the topic of "Opportunities and risks of ISO 45001 in the logistics sector" via video conference. It quickly became clear that there will be a lot of momentum in this area in the future, as some major German car manufacturers will require all important contractual partners to provide proof of an ISO 45001-certified occupational health and safety management system from next year.

In keeping with the topic - because occupational health and safety management systems focus on people - a representative of the" Zukunftsschiene" initiative reported on the situation of temporary workers in the district of Görlitz under the "Did you know?" category. The closure of Bombardier Transportation GmbH's production site for rail vehicles in particular means that this topic is currently very much in the news. You can find out more about the project, which aims to provide companies with qualified workers, here: www.zukunftsschiene.de

We would like to thank the Center for e-learning for supporting the virtual transmission and recording of the presentations, which allows them to be used flexibly in further teaching. We would also like to thank our co-organizer, TÜV-Rheinland Akademie GbmH.

The next IMS breakfast will take place on 20.06.2018 from 9.00 a.m. on the topic of "Project management methods" and is also fully booked again.
