To mark Pride Month worldwide, Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is setting an example for diversity and equality.
June is all about diversity worldwide: this month marksPride Month. Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is also using this period to clearly promote diversity and equal rights. Rainbow flags will therefore be flying on the Zittau campus throughout June. In addition, the university logo on the HSZG website and social media channels will be colored in rainbow colors.
The use of rainbow colors is a symbol of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and stands for the acceptance of diversity and equality. It is important that educational institutions such as Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences also publicly commit to these values in order to create a climate of openness and tolerance . The campaign is supported and expressly welcomed by the University Senate.
June was chosen asPride Month to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising that took place in New York City in June 1969. The Stonewall Uprising was a turning point in the LGBTQ+ movement because it sparked a broad public discussion about discrimination against LGBTQ+ people and inspired the emergence of LGBTQ+ organizations and activists worldwide. Since then, Pride Month has been used to celebrate the achievements and progress of the LGBTQ+ community, but also to continue to fight for equality and against discrimination.
LGBTQ+ is an acronym for a group of identities related to sexual orientation and gender identity. LGBTQ+ stands for "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer" and the plus sign symbolizes that other identities are included in the group.
