During this year's Come in weeks, students were once again able to prepare for the start of their studies.
From September 13 to 28, 2021, the HSZG once again hosted the preparation and come-in weeks. In contrast to the previous year, new students were once again able to take part in significantly more face-to-face courses in compliance with hygiene regulations. The preliminary courses in mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, physics and chemistry were available to refresh knowledge, supplemented by various leisure activities to get to know the new study locations and fellow students.
As in previous years, the preliminary courses were again very well attended this year. A total of 133 students registered for the various preliminary courses. The physics preliminary course was the most popular with 86 participants, followed by the mathematics preliminary course in Zittau with 83 participants. The other Zittau preliminary courses in electrical engineering and chemistry each attracted 42 students. At the Görlitz location, the preliminary courses in mathematics and computer science - websites and web applications were available, for which a total of 26 and 18 inquisitive students registered respectively.
In addition to the professional refresher course, there were once again various leisure activities this year to get to know each other and network. These had to be greatly reduced last year due to the pandemic and were perhaps also particularly popular during the Come in weeks 2021. Whether it was a relaxed evening at Lake Olbersdorf, an informative guided tour of the historic old town of Zittau or the European city of Görlitz-Zgorcelec or an adventurous excursion to the Zittau Mountains - the leisure activities offered plenty of scope for interesting discussions and socializing. Of course, the two student clubs "DeZi-Bar" Zittau and "Maus" Görlitz were not to be missed, inviting the new students to two cozy barbecue evenings. The leisure activities were accompanied by students from higher semesters, who were able to make contacts with the first-year students before the regular start of lectures and report on their previous experiences of studying.
Once again this year, we can draw a positive conclusion after the Come In Weeks. They have become an indispensable support service for students starting their studies and make a valuable contribution for many young people who have decided to study at the HSZG.
Finally, I would like to thank the lecturers of the preliminary courses in mathematics, Professor Mashuryan and Professor Schnell, as well as Mr. Cella, Maria Hausmann and Toni Grüning, Ms. Herzig (lecturer of the preliminary course in electrical engineering), Dr. Prenzel (lecturer of the preliminary course in computer science), Mr. Spitzner (lecturer of the preliminary course in physics) and Prof. Weber (lecturer of the preliminary course in chemistry). I would also like to thank the student volunteers for their support: Lydia Laarz from FSR-M, Ria Hübner and Justus Schmiedchen from FSR-N and Jennifer Prohl from FSR-W.
A successful start to the winter semester 2021/22 at the HSZG to all first-year students!
