"Good university didactics is therefore essential"

In March 2019, the 48th annual conference of the German Association for University Didactics (dghd) took place in Leipzig under the motto "Regeneration of university teaching - continuity of education, quality development and university didactic practice".

In March 2019, the 48th annual conference of the German Association for University Didactics (dghd) took place in Leipzig with over 600 participants under the motto "Regenerating university teaching - continuity of education, quality development and university didactic practice".

The conference was opened by Dr Eva-Maria Stange, Minister of State for Science and the Arts in the Free State of Saxony, who said: "Today's teachers have many additional challenges to overcome: the heterogeneity of the student body, diversity, internationalization and digitalization, which affects all areas of life. Good university didactics is therefore essential". The following contributions from our university address precisely these points.

"Teaching values" Students take on social and ecological responsibility and learn project management in the process

The elevator pitch for the poster "Teaching values" by Professor Sophia Keil and Daniel Winkler.

In addition to imparting subject-specific knowledge, how can competencies such as value orientation, social, economic and ecological sustainability in action and decision-making, teamwork and cooperation skills, a systematic and methodical approach and planning skills be encouraged in students? This article provides answers to these questions and highlights the challenges and opportunities that arise. The aims of the teaching/learning concept at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Industrial Engineering were, on the one hand, to prepare future industrial engineers for a career characterized by project management and, on the other hand, to actively deal with key social problems.

"thermoE" - Competence-oriented e-assessment in the STEM field using the example of technical thermodynamics

This article was supported by the project Lehrpraxis im Transfer plus and presented by our university, the Technische Universität Dresden and the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg. The core results of current e-learning projects dealing with the creation and use of competence-oriented e-assessments were presented. With "thermoE", a procedure was developed for the creation of mathematical-methodical e-test tasks with the ONYX test suite within the Saxon learning management system OPAL. In contrast to many conventional procedures, which are mostly geared towards checking final results, "thermoE" allows the calculation path as well as the methodological skills and theoretical knowledge required to solve the task to be checked.

In summary, the conference offered a successful program on the following topics:

  • Education as a mission of higher education and university didactics,
  • Higher education didactics in the quality development of studies and teaching and
  • Higher education didactics as a profession - organization of higher education didactics.

Our university was once again able to make a valuable contribution to the conference with a variety of discourse workshops, impulse contributions, simulation games, poster presentations, lectures and workshops on all aspects of university didactics.
