"Good university didactics is therefore essential"

In March 2019, the 48th Annual Conference of the German Society for Higher Education Didactics (dghd) took place in Leipzig under the theme “Regeneration of Higher Education Teaching – Continuity in Education, Quality Development, and Higher Education Pedagogy,” took place in Leipzig with over 600 participants.

The conference was opened by Dr. Eva-Maria Stange, Minister of State for Science and the Arts in the Free State of Saxony, who said: “Today’s instructors face many additional challenges: the heterogeneity of the student body, diversity, International Affairs, and digitalization, which is impacting all areas of life. Good higher education pedagogy is therefore essential.” The presentations from our university described below addressed precisely these points.

“Teaching Values”: Students Assume Social and Environmental Responsibility While Learning Project Management

In addition to imparting subject-specific knowledge, how can competencies such as value orientation, social, economic and ecological sustainability in action and decision-making, teamwork and cooperation skills, a systematic and methodical approach and planning skills be encouraged in students? This article provides answers to these questions and highlights the challenges and opportunities that arise. The objectives of the teaching/learning concept at the Faculty of Business Administration and Engineering Management were, on the one hand, to prepare prospective industrial engineers for a career characterized by project management and, on the other hand, to actively address key social problems.

"thermoE" - Competency-Based E-Assessment in STEM Fields: The Example of Technical Thermodynamics

In summary, the conference offered a successful program covering the following topics:

• Education as the Mission of Universities and Higher Education Pedagogy,
• Higher education pedagogy in the quality development of study programs and teaching, and
• Higher education pedagogy as a profession—the organization of higher education pedagogy.

Through a variety of discussion workshops, keynote presentations, simulation exercises, poster presentations, lectures, and workshops centered on higher education pedagogy, our university was once again able to make a valuable contribution to the conference.
