Setting the course together

Collegial exchange of expertise between the Erfurt University of Applied Sciences and the HSZG during the visit to Zittau.

The HSZG has close links with Erfurt University of Applied Sciences. The two universities of applied sciences have been cooperating in the field of railroad control and safety technology for over 10 years. Students on the Erfurt Industrial Engineering and Railway Management course and students on the dual degree course in Automation and Mechatronics (HSZG) benefit from the professional exchange and participatory teaching opportunities at both locations. The HSZG is also involved in the "Digitalization in Railway Engineering" certificate course at Erfurt University of Applied Sciences.

The Rector, Prof. Alexander Kratzsch, and the Chancellor of the HSZG, Ms. Karin Hollstein, were therefore particularly pleased to welcome their guests from Erfurt at the end of January:

Prof. Frank Setzer, President of the FH Erfurt,

Prof. Stefan Landwehr, Chancellor of the FH Erfurt, and

Ms. Stefanie Bauer, Managing Director of the Executive Board of the FH Erfurt.

In a collegial exchange of expertise, they discussed current topics of a higher education policy and strategic nature that are of equal concern to the Rectorate of the HSZG and the Executive Board of the UAS Erfurt.

The highlight of the meeting between the HSZG and Erfurt University of Applied Sciences was the visit to the Zittau Süd training signal box. Volker Brade and Patrick Hornung, members of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at HSZG, demonstrated the railway-specific control and safety technology that both Erfurt and Zittau students are learning. The guests were able to gain an impression of the practical teaching content directly on site by setting the points themselves. This was crowned with a ride on the Zittau narrow-gauge railroad.
