The young scientist Dr. Sebastian Herrmann from Zittau reports on the new industry standard.
Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Herrmann from the Department of Technical Thermodynamics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering accepted an invitation to an international conference in the field of water and environmental sciences in Qingdao, China. At this annual conference, Dr. Herrmann presented the new international standard for seawater in a lecture. This international industry standard, adopted in 2013 by the International Association for the Properties of Water and Steam (IAPWS) for the calculation of the thermodynamic properties of seawater is required for the design, optimization and operation of desalination plants and power plant cooling systems. The standard was developed under the leadership of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Hans-Joachim Kretzschmar at the Department of Technical Thermodynamics at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences by Dr. Herrmann in cooperation with the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde and the Ruhr University Bochum.
