2 places for a Voluntary Year in Science, Technology and Sustainability (FJN) - reference: FJN 24 -

ZukLOS plays a central role in promoting extracurricular STEM education at the university. Its goal is to establish a region-wide learning hub for the future. In cooperation with various regional stakeholders, several extracurricular STEM learning centers are being developed to strengthen extracurricular STEM education in Upper Lusatia and thereby help ensure a long-term supply of young skilled workers in the region.

In doing so, the HSZG places particular emphasis on supporting young people who wish to share their enthusiasm for technology and the natural sciences with students in the region.

In collaboration with the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Zittau, the Zittau Junior Academy and the DLR_School_Lab at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences are being established and operated. Here, the fascinating world of research will be brought to life through hands-on experiments. Topics include, for example, aerospace, low-carbon industrial processes, robotics, natural fibers, and energy.

The following tasks await you:

• Supporting the establishment and operation of the DLR_School_Lab at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences,
• Preparing, conducting, and following up on experiments,
• Supervising children and teenagers during their on-site visits,
• Guiding children and teenagers as they conduct the experiments,
• Collaborating on the development and refinement of experiments related to the HSZG’s research priorities,
• Assisting with special events (e.g., school project days, STEM project weeks, Kinder Academy).

You should have the following knowledge and skills:

• A high school diploma,
• Enthusiasm for science and technology,
• (especially physics, computer science, chemistry, and biology),
• Technical and experimental expertise,
• Openness, reliability, punctuality, independence,
• creativity and innovation,
• Enjoyment of working with children and teenagers and as part of a team,
• Experience with MS Office (especially Word and PowerPoint) is a plus.
