10th Controller Conference at the HSZG

The conference, which takes place every two years, celebrated a milestone anniversary.

For many, it was a reunion after two years in Görlitz. They belong to the permanent core of the large controller family from universities in all federal states. One controller from a Saxon university did not miss any of the ten conferences, two controllers from universities in Saxony-Anhalt and Bavaria attended nine times. But there are always new faces coming to Görlitz to exchange ideas and learn about current projects at other universities in the specialist presentations.

In 2001, the then Chancellor Dr. Peter Reinhold and the Head of the former Rector's Office Dr. Kühne had the idea of organizing an exchange of experiences on topics relating to controlling at universities, which was still in its infancy at the time. The response was great and there were plenty of topics, from cost and performance accounting and the instruments of new university management to separation and capacity calculation. Later, Chancellor Karin Hollstein and Dr. Scheibler from the Controlling department took over the organization and successfully continued this event format.

The idea became a tradition. The 10th conference at the end of September 2019 attracted 89 participants from 14 federal states to the Neisse.

In his opening lecture, Prof. Matthias Schmidt, Faculty of Social Sciences at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, spoke about the changing world of work, which is increasingly affecting university administrations and will continue to do so in the future. "Teleworking and mobile working require new methods of performance measurement". Process psychologist Dr Jörg Heidig from the Institute for Organizational Development of the same name addressed the question of what types of employees there are and how they can be motivated to constructively contribute to the work process in an increasingly flexible working environment.

A supporting program to get to know the cities of Zittau and Görlitz and their immediate surroundings is part of the conference tradition. On the occasion of the anniversary conference, a visit to the St. Marienthal monastery with an expert guide was on the agenda. The subsequent evening event at the Parkhotel Görlitz provided the perfect setting for an intensive exchange of experiences.
