Field of action university management

In the field of university management, the focus is on people and the social component of sustainability. Students and employees are considered equally in their diversity and variety. This field of action enables the university to approach sustainable development, particularly in terms of social aspects and their framework conditions, and to develop further.

Building blocks

  • Guidance

The leadership module is intended to demonstrate the link between top management and the individual structural units on the topic of sustainability. Politics should present the framework conditions from the outside, what guidelines or efforts there are for sustainability, especially at a national level, and what conditions would be necessary to promote sustainable development.

  • Personnel development

In addition to the traditional processes of personnel requirements planning, recruitment, hiring and working time documentation, the personnel development module also includes in-service training and further qualification. The various needs of all stakeholder groups, e.g. trainees, career starters, specialists and managers, academic staff and teaching staff, etc., must be taken into account in personnel development. However, strategic aspects of organizational development, such as company health management, the promotion of gender equality and work-life balance in the sense of lifecycle-oriented personnel development, are also highly focused topics in the wake of demographic change and social upheaval.

  • Health management

Beyond the legal requirements, the health management module should enable the higher education institution to maintain and improve the health of its employees with curative and preventative measures and should be understood as occupational health management. Particularly at small and medium-sized universities, the topics of personnel development and health are closely interwoven, so that the content of both components can be interlinked. We recommend working on both modules, also with regard to the expansion of services for employees, students and external target groups.

  • Quality management

Many SFIVETs have addressed the topic of quality in research and teaching as well as in processes at the institution and have dealt with the topic in very different ways. As in other modules, there are structures here that cannot be easily transferred to the "modular system" as a sustainability management system. The content of this module was therefore postponed. The content needs to be processed further and developed in the modular system in order to identify synergies and examine implementation.

  • Environmental management

The environmental management module brings together and coordinates the optimization processes relating to waste, energy, greenhouse gas balance, water and mobility. Internal and external issues at SFIVET and stakeholder requirements are included in the module.

  • Risk management

The risk management module coordinates the identification, assessment, management and control of risks and will be introduced as an integral part of SFIVET's existing risk management system. Risks and opportunities are emphasized in the context of sustainable development.

  • Diversity

The Diversity module aims to consider objectives, offers and measures for university members who require support as members of SFIVET. Equality, family friendliness, age-appropriate working, equal opportunities and inclusion are important focal points of the module.

  • Internationality

The internationality module is intended to take into account the diversity of SFIVET members. Not only the different cultures, ethnicities and beliefs play an important role here, but also the social background.

  • Controlling

In the controlling module, ecological, social, societal, political and ethical aspects are integrated into the planning, management and control of university departments. Similar to quality management, structures already exist at many SFIVETs, which is why a transfer to the BNC cannot be accomplished without further ado. The aim is to develop the content of the module.
