Valuable skills and cultural diversity

Outstanding achievements of the international students were honored at the ceremonial presentation of certificates to the graduates of the HSZG's preparatory college.

Ceremonial presentation of certificates to the graduates of the Studienkolleg

On Friday, February 7, 2025, the ceremonial presentation of certificates for the graduates of the Studienkolleg of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in the winter semester 2024/2025 took place in the festive ambience of the Bürgersaal in Zittau Town Hall. The event recognized the outstanding achievements of the international students who successfully completed their Feststellungsprüfung (FSP) or the Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang (DSH).

A ceremony full of recognition and music

After the welcome address by Ellen Leuschner, Director of the Studienkolleg, Mr. Andrri Hryb from Ukraine opened the ceremony with music on the piano. In their welcoming addresses, City Councillor Ute Wunderlich and the Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs, Prof. Sophia Keil, emphasized the importance of international students for the university and the region. The musical performances by Ms. Palacz on the piano and Mr. E. Edwards Solano lent the ceremony a dignified atmosphere.

International fellows, students and researchers are a priceless treasure for our university and our region. They bring new perspectives, valuable skills and cultural diversity that enrich and strengthen our community.

Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil, Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs

Presentation of certificates and special honors

A total of 20 graduates received their FSP certificate:

  • 14 in the Technology specialization course (TI course)
  • 6 in the Business specialization course (WW course)

In addition, 8 students received a DSH certificate, including one graduate with the highest level DSH 3. The graduates come from 11 different countries, which underlines the diversity and internationality of the Studienkolleg.

Special recognition was given to the best graduates of the respective courses, whose outstanding achievements were once again honored separately.

Successful graduation and outlook

Most of the graduates completed their degree in the allotted time:

  • 16 students completed the FSP in just two semesters.
  • 6 of the 8 DSH graduates passed the exam after just one semester.

At the end of the event, Ellen Leuschner gave an optimistic outlook on the future of the graduates and the further development of the Studienkolleg. The ceremony was rounded off with ceremonial words of welcome from Mario Linack. The Chairman of the Friends of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences e. V. praised the work of the Studienkolleg and the great commitment of the staff and congratulated the students on their educational success.

The motto of our certificate ceremony this semester is "To be successful, you need two things: clear goals and a burning desire to achieve them". We hope that the Studienkolleg students will remember their time at the Studienkolleg in Zittau and their teachers fondly and continue to take this motto to heart in the future.

Ellen Leuschner, Head of the HSZG preparatory college

Photo exhibition "Faces of Hope" - Young talents from all over the world in Zittau

Jeremy Cope, English teacher at the University Language Center, took the opportunity to present the photo exhibition "Faces of Hope" for the first time as part of the ceremonial presentation of certificates to this year's students. The exhibition shows impressive portraits of international students who have come to Germany with great expectations to continue their education at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

A selection of the exhibition is now on display in Zittau Town Hall before it goes on show in its entirety in the Zittau University Library from March 12 until April 30, 2025. The aim of the exhibition is to make the diversity and internationality of the university visible and to tell the stories of young people who are pursuing their academic path in Germany with diligence and courage.

The portraits give the students a voice - their wishes for the future are as diverse as their countries of origin: from personal happiness and professional success to peace and equal opportunities for all. The exhibition not only shows faces, but also the hopes that young people from all over the world bring with them to Zittau.
