In September, Mr. Gubsch successfully completed his training as a boiler operator. As part of his research work in the field of measurement technology andProcess Automation at the IPM, Mr. Gubsch is working on the research project “High-Transient Thermal Energy Storage System for Plant-Friendly and Energy-Efficient Flexibilization of Thermal Energy Plants,” focusing on the development and experimental qualification of thermal energy storage systems.

This training is required to be authorized to operate the THERESA test facility—which is subject to mandatory monitoring—at the Zittau Power Plant Laboratory. Mr. Gubsch is now part of a team of three boiler operators at the THERESA test facility. As part of the research project, the necessary long-term experiments lasting several days can now also be conducted.

As part of the three-week training course, which was financially supported by the university, participants gained theoretical and practical knowledge regarding the safe operation, maintenance, and servicing of steam boiler systems and their safety equipment. In addition, instruction was provided on legal and regulatory requirements, such as the Product Safety Act, the Pressure Equipment Directive, and the Technical Rules for Operational Safety.
