Lecture on the legal issues of telemedicine at the 14th DGIV Federal Congress

At the annual conference of the German Society for Integrated Care in Healthcare, Prof. Dr. Hahn speaks on the subject of the "ban on remote treatment".

Professor Dr. Erik Hahn spoke at the 14th Federal Congress of the German Society for Integrated Care in Healthcare on 7 December 2017 on the topic of "Telemedicine and the ban on remote treatment". The conference took place in Berlin's "Auditorium Friedrichstraße" and was attended by a wide range of stakeholders from the healthcare industry.

In his presentation, Professor Hahn discussed the legal framework for remote treatment measures from a German perspective (professional, drug advertising and pharmaceutical law). He pointed out the increase in foreign players in this sector, who - such as British online doctors and Dutch mail-order pharmacies - also provide e-health services on the German healthcare market on the basis of European fundamental freedoms. The lack of consistency in healthcare law, which is reflected, for example, in the liberalization of medical professional law and the simultaneous tightening of pharmaceutical law, was another focus of the presentation.

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Integrierte Versorgung im Gesundheitswesen e. V. (German Society for Integrated Healthcare) is an association active throughout Germany that has set itself the goal of promoting cross-sector care through medical, nursing and social services. In particular, it strives to break down or make permeable the boundaries between outpatient and inpatient care and to bring practitioners and hospitals closer together. Telemedicine applications can help to achieve this goal and at the same time make an important contribution to securing care in structurally weak areas. Other speakers at the conference included the Chairman of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, Dr. Andreas Gassen, the Hamburg Senator for Health and Consumer Protection, Cornelia Prüfer-Storcks, and the Director of the Munich Institute for Health Economics, Prof. Dr. Günter Neubauer.

In addition to the lecture program, the event offered a good opportunity to establish new contacts with various professional associations, ministries and medical device manufacturers or to further deepen them and thus also to strengthen the research area of e-health (Prof. Dr Hahn, Zittau & Institute for Health, Ageing and Technology - GAT, Görlitz). On this basis, future transfer projects can be developed and practice-oriented theses can be offered to students in the fields of "International Business Law" and "Medical Law".
