Research team led by Professor Kornhuber successful with the "Geometrically controlled medium-voltage joint" project.
"Science and business - that is the strong connection that strengthens our region and sets it up for the future." This opening statement by the Rector of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG), Prof. Friedrich Albrecht, marked the start of the fifth Lusatian Science Transfer Prize (LWTP) awards ceremony on 20 April 2016 - organized and carried out by the Lusatian Business Initiative (WiL).
The selection jury, which also includes the Vice-Rector for Research at the HSZG, Prof. Tobias Zschunke, did not make it easy this year either to choose three award winners from the seven proposals submitted. Prof. Kornhuber (HSZG), Mario Dreßler (HSZG) and Stephan Arndt and Gerald Jacob from Behr Bircher Cellpack Radeberg GmbH can be proud, as the expert judges found their transfer project "Geometrically controlled medium-voltage sleeve - cable connection system for medium-voltage technology" to be of very high quality and awarded it 3rd prize.
In his laudatory speech, the Vice-Rector for Research at the HSZG, Prof. Dr. Tobias Zschunke, referred to the many years of collaboration in this specialist field: "Much of this, and this is part of the symbiosis, is only possible thanks to the demand and support of BBC Radeberg GmbH. Something is working here that has been systematically built up over the course of the aforementioned 25 years by Prof. Kornhuber's predecessors, Prof. Pilling and Prof. Bärsch. "
The conditions of participation in this competition speak for themselves: only those who can demonstrate a functioning partnership between universities and scientific institutions on the one hand and the business community on the other, which is reflected in a specific project, are accepted as candidates.
The organizers, but also all the guests, confirmed that it was a really successful event, which also offered space and time to talk to the various players - from science, business and public administration. The HSZG presented itself as a modern education and research location and the transfer activities of the employees could be intensively pursued on this evening.
The first two prizes went to BTU Cottbus and its practice partners, Duräumat-Agrotec Agrartechnik GmbH (project "Seilverschleiss - Messgerät zur Zustandsbewertung von Seilen in der landwirtschaftlichen Tierproduktion", 2nd place) and Purtec Engineering GmbH (project "KITRAS - KInästhetisches TRansferierungsAssistenzSystem im stationären Pflegebereich", 1st place).
The new application round for the 2017 prize will start in the fall. And the organizers and jury members very much hope that projects from the HSZG will also be entered again.
