Conference "Biomass to Power and Heat" 2015

The conference topic "Using biomass to meet electricity demand" generated a great deal of interest at the event.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences organized the Biomass Conference for the fourth time this year - for the first time under the new name "Biomass to Power and Heat". With almost 80 participants, there was a great deal of interest in the topic of the workshop-style event, which provided a good working atmosphere and exciting discussions.

Following the opening of the colloquium by event director Prof. Tobias Zschunke, the diverse audience was able to experience interesting presentations on the use of biomass to meet electricity demand as this year's conference topic and engaged in lively discussions on the results presented during the breaks. The participants discussed the current legal framework, the aspects of biomass supply and the possibilities for plant flexibilization in particular detail.

The speakers came from all over Germany, but also from Switzerland, Italy and Austria. They mainly represented privately and publicly funded research institutions, energy suppliers and specialist federal and state institutions. Parallel to the usual plenary session, six companies presented themselves this year as part of a separate company exchange, providing conference participants with additional space for detailed questions and suggestions in addition to the presentation of company-specific development and future plans.

Firmenbörse

The main focus of the event has always been the intensive exchange between science and practice - an added value that is appreciated both by the practice-oriented scientists at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and by those companies and institutions that deal with the topic of energy from biomass on a daily and very practical basis.

The "Biomass to Power and Heat" conference was first held in 2011 under the name "Electrical Energy from Biomass". It emerged from a session on biomass use in 2008, which was almost ahead of its time, but is now an important player in the current debate on the future building blocks of our energy system. Over the past five years, the conference has therefore become a permanent fixture in the field of biomass energy use.

Following the specialist colloquium, a conference volume will be compiled in collaboration with the individual speakers and subsequently published. The organizers will be holding further events on this topic at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in the coming years.
