Young scientists in the online competition

The central theme of the event was the use of bioenergy in climate-friendly energy supply and the reduction of fossil fuel consumption.

The 25th FACHTAGUNG "Nutzung nachwachsender Rohstoffe - Biomass to Power and Heat" was originally scheduled to take place as a 3-day conference in Zittau from June 17-19, 2020.

Like so many events this year, this one could not be realized as planned due to Covid-19 restrictions. It is therefore all the more gratifying that the Young Academics Conference, which was originally intended to be the first part of the symposium, was nevertheless held as an online conference on June 17.

The central theme of the event was the use of bioenergy in climate-friendly energy supply and reducing the consumption of fossil resources.

During the all-day conference, seven young scientists presented their work on the utilization of biomass, e.g. in thermochemical gasification processes or the use of residues in agriculture.

Professor Tobias Zschunke opened the conference and Kristina Hermann from the Fördergesellschaft Erneuerbare Energien e. V. then led through the event and moderated the speakers on a subject-specific basis, making sure that the schedule was adhered to and that the speakers did not exceed their presentation time. Even the breaks were designed in such a way that the participants could participate creatively.(Here is an example.)

The summary of the 45 participants afterwards was predominantly positive. The moderation was rated as very competent and entertaining, the event as very well organized and the presentations as optimally selected. In addition, there was a desire for a repeat next year - regardless of Corona, again in the resource-saving format of the ONLINE conference.

On July 15, the time has come - the best 3 presentations of the Young Academics Conference will be awarded prizes and prize money. In addition, all submitted papers will be published by Springer-Verlag.

You can find more information about the online conference here.
