Cooperative doctorate with the TU Dresden/IHI Zittau

A long journey has now come to an end with the successful defense of her dissertation "Student Recruitment".

With the successful defense of her dissertation "Student Recruitment. A Comparison of Marketing to Attract First-Year Students in Germany and the USA, as well as Expansion and Implications for German University Marketing", Katrin von Schäwen was able to clear the way to the academic degree "Dr. rer. pol." at the TU Dresden IHI. The former student of business administration with a focus on marketing at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences began her cooperative doctoral studies between the International University Institute IHI Zittau - Dresden University of Technology and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences in 2006. Her long academic path also led her to a research stay in the USA funded by the Free State of Saxony and the European Social Fund. There, she conducted expert interviews at renowned international universities: with Dr. Kathleen Kook (Graduate Theological Union, Berkeley), Susanna Castillo-Robson and Bob Patterson (University of California Berkeley, Berkeley), Shawn L. Abbott (Stanford University, Stanford), Javier Hernandez (California State University Northridge, Los Angeles), William Tingley and Brett Schraeder, Occidental College, Los Angeles), Paul Orehovec and Dr. Scott Ingold (University of Miami, Coral Gables), Dr. Jim Black (SEM Works, Greensboro), Clare Pistey (City University of New York, New York), Stuart Schmill (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT, Cambridge), Jake Kaufmann (Harvard University, Cambridge), Dr. Thomas Huddleston (Williams & Company, Noank), Prof. Dr. Don Hossler (Indiana University Bloomington). As a research assistant at the International University Institute, at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and as a clerk in the civil service for the state parliament in Baden-Württemberg, she also gained extensive experience in the transfer of scientific knowledge into practice. Today, Katrin von Schäwen helps young people on their way to a successful career at a service provider in eastern Saxony.

The supervisors and reviewers of the doctorate were Univ.-Prof. Dr. Albert Löhr and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Florian U. Siems from the TU Dresden as well as Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Clemens Renker from the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. The examination was chaired by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Thorsten Claus, Director of the IHI at TU Dresden and Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c.
