New knowledge and transfer laboratory opened at the university.
On July 6, the "MINT and DC Grid Lab / Co-Creation Lab Networked Mobility" laboratory created under Saxony5 was officially opened at the Zittau site.
The laboratory sees itself as a knowledge transfer laboratory and was created within the Saxony5 project with the support and cooperation of regional partner companies. These include in particular ATN Hölzel, Bosecker/Walther-Werke, Zittauer Stadtwerke and SachsenEnergie.
From the perspective of e-mobility in rural areas and the challenges of the energy transition, a wide range of topics arise, which are shown in the laboratory through real systems and demonstrations. The topics presented include charging technologies, security of supply via self-sufficient and autonomous power supply with photovoltaics and micro CHP (combined heat and power unit), sector coupling and possible future local low-voltage DC grids in residential buildings. For example, it will be possible to demonstrate in real time how the existing photovoltaic system with battery storage behaves in the event of a power failure and can ensure the electrical energy supply of a home.
The laboratory is used for student training, for pupils and as a source of information for interested citizens.
In addition to the generous support of the aforementioned regional partner companies, the laboratory was financed primarily through third-party funds generated from research contracts with industry.
