Here's to a successful new year!

On January 12, the HSZG and its partners hosted the 14th "Business meets Science" New Year's reception at the university.

On January 12, the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Dresden Chamber of Crafts, the Allgemeine Unternehmer Verband Zittau e.V., Fraunhofer IWU and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences hosted the 14th "Business meets Science" New Year's reception at the university.

Under the motto "More space for innovative technologies", companies, researchers and interested parties came together to find out about the new possibilities in the newly opened extension building of the Fraunhofer IWU, to toast the new year and exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. Additive manufacturing was therefore the focus of interest.

The event choreography followed a tried and tested pattern: a welcome from the Rector Prof. Kratzsch, brief statements from representatives of the co-organizers on the importance and future of additive manufacturing in the region, a technical impulse from Dr. Lopez from Dresden's Fraunhofer IWS and a brief insight from Prof. Scholz (Fraunhofer IWU) into what the guests would get to see on the subsequent tour of Fraunhofer IWU.

The premature farewell of Matthias Schwarzbach, head of the IHK Zittau office, should not go unmentioned. He launched the event format with former rector Prof. Hampel and developed it further for 14 years together with HWK, AUV and the university. He will be retiring this year - so this was his last "Business meets Science" as organizer. Many thanks for the many years of dedicated networking between science and business and all the best for the future!

A big thank you also goes to Leonie Liemich, who moderated the evening competently, charmingly and confidently and conducted a very successful specialist workshop on additive manufacturing as part of the Lausitz Life and Technology project in the run-up to the evening event.

So what was the takeaway from the evening?

The existing density of companies in the region that manufacture products using lightweight construction and plastics is impressive.

Zittau is at the cutting edge of research into the latest manufacturing technologies.

The university and research institutes in Zittau have opened up more and more in recent years and have become closer and more important cooperation partners for companies in the region.
