10th Federal Congress of Social Work

Social Work degree program present at central social work congresses.

Over the past few days, Prof. Dr. Rudolf Schmitt and Prof. Dr. Andreas Markert (both from the Social Work degree program) and university social worker Sandro Hänseroth have offered events on current topics and developments in social work at central congresses. At the 10th Federal Social Work Congress held in Bielefeld from 5-7 September 2018 under the motto 'The Value of Social Work - The Value of Social Work', Prof. Dr. Rudolf Schmitt and Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schröer from the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Berlin presented doctoral paths and opportunities for graduates of social work courses. In particular, the topic of "Doctorates after graduating from a university of applied sciences in social work: is it worth it?" was discussed both critically and controversially by students, doctoral candidates and lecturers.

In the event 'University social work - Approaches to an innovative field of social work', Sandro Hänseroth and Prof. Dr. Andreas Markert presented the university social work approach that has been practised at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences since May 2016. In addition to the methodological foundations and theoretical positioning of this approach, which is unique in the German-speaking world, initial experiences of scientifically supported university social work were presented and intensively discussed with students and colleagues from other universities.

As part of the 4th International Congress of the Swiss Society for Social Work (SGSA), which took place in Lausanne on September 12 and 13, 2018 under the title "Social Work and the Life Course under the Sign of Acceleration", Sandro Hänseroth and Prof. Dr. Andreas Markert presented university social work as an institutional response to the changing problems and life situations of students. In addition to the functions and potentials of university social work in the context of contemporary university socialization, the symposium dealt primarily with the questions of how university social work can be transferred to other university systems and networked with internal and external university support services.

Students with difficulties and problems during their studies or in everyday student life can get an overview of the available counseling and support options.

All services offered by the HSZG and Studentenwerk Dresden are free of charge.
