Welcome Radka Jirova! Since 4.1.24, Radka has not only enriched our Czech vocabulary.
Ahoy Radka,
What attracted you to the "RENI" research topic that made you swap beautiful Liberec for equally beautiful Zittau?
Participating in the RENI project is an opportunity for me to develop personally and to contribute my experience and knowledge of environmental issues. However, my cooperation with the Technical University of Liberec is not over yet, I plan to continue my teaching, science and research there. The RENI project deals with topics related to environmental protection, nature, recycling and sustainability of resources. In this sense, as a PhD in mechanical engineering, I can bring life cycle and sustainability issues into the project. These topics essentially influence the original design. As part of my contractual research cooperation at the Technical University of Liberec, I have worked on tasks in which a lot of material could be saved through a suitable construction method and thus fundamentally protect the environment.
You come from the TU Liberec and have already gained some experience at companies. What have you done so far?
I studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University in Liberec. I worked my way up to a doctorate through my bachelor's degree. During my doctoral studies, I had the opportunity to work on a topic related to industrial practice. The topic of diagnostics of linear rolling guides was assigned to me by Škoda Auto a.s., where I had previously worked and participated in solving technical problems in production. I was able to participate in Skoda's career program. (Can you find Radka?)
You have already been to the HSZG for an internship. What has changed for you at the HSZG since then?
I completed an internship at the HSZG in 2017, when I worked on purely mechanical engineering topics such as vibrations of machine parts, vibrating conveyors and so on at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Now I will be working at ZIRKON. So I've changed both my location at the HSZG and my commute. I used to travel by train, now I travel by car. Commuting by train from the Czech Republic would not be feasible in terms of time.
Zittau is surrounded by wonderful mountains, lakes and nice neighbors. Have you had the opportunity to explore any of them?
I don't know much about the nature around Zittau. I used to go via ferrata climbing here. Apart from that, I tend to explore the area around Liberec, Ještěd, the Jizera Mountains and the Giant Mountains. I like skiing in winter, playing golf in summer and figure skating all year round.
Quick round of questions!
Nice that we got chatting a bit on the way to the faculty colloquium - see you tomorrow at the institute breakfast!
