Research Assistant (m/f/d) - Keyword: 55-2024 DC Lab Saxony - PS -

As part of this JTF project, the construction and operation of a ±55-kV DC switchgear facility will be planned and carried out. The project will formulate and define fundamental requirements regarding technical, regulatory, and economic conditions and implement them into a technical solution.

Through this project, Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences aims to develop expertise in issues related to the operation of DC grids, with the long-term goal of assuming a leading national and international role in the implementation of DC grids within distribution network structures.

The goal is to address specific topics related to the development of DC distribution network structures, including:

• grid operation,
• insulation coordination,
• and grid connection.

The successful candidate (m/f/d) will be responsible in particular for the following tasks:

• Determining suitable operating voltages for DC medium- and high-voltage grids,
• Developing requirements for connecting DC grids to AC grids,
• Insulation coordination in DC grid structures,
• Developing principles for DC voltage and power control in the grid when implementing generation and consumption facilities,
• Identifying opportunities for providing system services at the AC interconnection point,
• Development of grid simulation models to analyze various operational scenarios and potential fault conditions,
• Development of technical standards and
• simulation of DC grid structures.

The following knowledge and skills are required

• A completed college degree, preferably in a scientific field, in electrical engineering with a specialization in energy systems,
• professional experience, particularly specialized knowledge in the areas of grid analysis and measurement in distribution networks,
• practical knowledge of or experience with MatLab, Python, and PSCAD in conducting measurements and simulating transient balancing processes, as well as
• good English language skills.
