HSCG Professor Erik Hahn helped to develop an emergency form for forward-looking treatment planning.
Together with the Emergency Medicine Committee of the Saxon State Medical Association, the Ethics in Medicine Working Group has developed an emergency form for anticipatory therapy planning. HSZG Professor Erik Hahn was also involved. "I have been a member of this working group since 2019 due to my academic work in the field of medical law," explains the professor of civil law, medical law and commercial and real estate law.
He was involved in formulating the content of the document. The emergency form is intended for people who are already in need of care or are otherwise in an advanced state of illness, so that all conceivable emergency situations can be taken into account in the same way in view of their currently limited state of health.
According to a press release from the Saxon State Medical Association, in view of the current illness situation, the patient with decision-making capacity can decide in writing for or against possible future emergency treatments in the emergency form and draw up an advance directive. In contrast to the legally defined living will, however, the authorized representative can also record the patient's presumed will. This is also an important decision-making aid for the treating emergency doctor.
The emergency form is printed in Ärzteblatt Sachsen, 2/2022, where it is also available for download.
