DAAD scholarship holder 2018 presented

Ana Maria Saldana Peña from Colombia is the 2018 DAAD scholarship holder at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

Ana Maria Saldana Peña from Colombia is the 2018 DAAD scholarship holder at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. She is currently studying for a Master's degree in Energy Technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. With her good and very good academic performance, she has also impressed in her second study phase at our university.

She already completed her first degree at our university and achieved a good grade for her thesis on the topic of "Development of a test facility for the clear measurement of forces on flowing bodies".

Throughout her studies, she worked as a research assistant and also supported the faculty, in particular

-                         at the Come in weeks,

-                         at the student recruitment initiative  "Studieren probieren"

-                         as well as with the general support of fellow foreign students

very supportive.

She was a tutor in the student union hall of residence and contributed to the community there.

Ms. Peña was also very active in cross-faculty events such as the "International Coffee Hour" and the "International Dinner". It is precisely these types of events, where German and foreign students are brought together, where concerns and needs are identified and, above all, tips can be passed on, that are so valuable for the university. That's why Ms. Peña's initiatives cannot be overestimated.

All in all, Ms. Peña has impressed us with her achievements, her commitment and her willingness to help and support her fellow students throughout her studies.

The German Academic Exchange Service, or DAAD for short, wants to give a face to the growing number of young people at German universities who come to study here from many different countries around the world with its prize for outstanding achievements by foreign students, and connect them with a story.

At our university alone, there are 600 students from 35 different nations studying here.

The DAAD, an organization that organizes, manages and subsidizes academic exchange between Germany and the world, awards such a prize every year.

In addition to a certificate, the DAAD prize includes a grant of 1000 euros.

The prize was presented during the matriculation ceremony on 4 October 2018 by the Director of Studies and International Affairs, Dr. Stefan Kühne.
